CHARITY DINNER APRIL 2005 AND
THUDAWE SCHOOL PROJECT
LearnAid was already into planning its January 2005 fund-raising dinner when the December 2004 tsunami struck. We then decided to use the funds in a tsunami-relief educational project, to be held in April 2005.
The estimated cost of construction was approximately KD 7276. As had been agreed beforehand, all funds generated from ticket sales and sponsorship of the event were received by SOSK. This collection amounted to 30% of the estimate, while the co-sponsor of the event committed 62% of the expected expenditure. From the donation made at the function by a Patron of LearnAid, we had set apart the amount needed to meet the shortfall from the estimate.
Our activities are financed with voluntary donations made by members and well wishers. We also hold charity events which help in financing the projects.
After LearnAid announced its plans, SOSK wished to work with us on this project and we accommodated the group.
We help the deserving in learning English language and computing skills.

At the Charity Dinner, we announced that the Planning Committee wished to manage the proceeds through the official bank account in Sri Lanka. We also made public at the event that if there were difficulties and administrative formalities that prevented us from proceeding with our plans, the funds would be used in a comparable educational project.

The decision of the Planning Committee was to construct a standard-design, single-storey building (100 feet long and 20 feet wide). The Committee handed over the responsibility for liaising
